The problems of cybersecurity in the country were discussed in Astana

A round table meeting on cybersecurity issues in the country was held in Astana.

The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies, industry experts and representatives of large IT companies.

The Kazakhstan Information Security Association, which has recently started its work, made a report on information security trends in Kazakhstan and the world. The chairman of the association, Viktor Pokusov, spoke about the activities of the association and plans for the future.

“One of the activities is to support local manufacturers in ensuring information security. At this time, it is necessary to raise the level of awareness of citizens about the value of information. According to the conducted research, 95% of all incidents are the fault of users,” said Pokusov.

The Association intends to improve the training of specialists by developing training programs and certifying professionals.

Talgat Mustagulov, Head of the Department for Monitoring Critical Information and Communication Infrastructure Facilities of the Information Security Committee of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented a presentation on the concept of “Cyber Shield Kazakhstan”.

This Concept was developed with the participation of government agencies, representatives of universities and the IT industry.

According to the rating of the Global Cybersecurity Index, Kazakhstan ranks 23rd out of 29 groups of countries along with Belarus, Slovenia and Armenia. The concept of "Cyber Shield" has been adopted and plans for its implementation have been outlined until 2022. It provides for changes in legislation, an increase in the number of information security specialists and improved interaction between industry and science.

During the round table meeting, supplier companies presented foreign information security products in order to adapt their solutions.

It should be noted that there are also local producers of cybersecurity programs in Kazakhstan, but it is impossible to cover all tasks with them. For example, in Russia, where the process of import substitution is underway, only about 10% of the demand is covered by local producers.
